At It Was Made Here, we romanticize getting up early to milk the cows and harvest your own vegetables, as well as using handmade natural products and cosmetics. Or even going to the Farmer’s Market to see, smell, touch the products and talk to the people who produced them.
But in a busy city life, it is not always possible to go buy directly from the producers. This is why we prepared a list of shops for you to visit if you want to find local products in the Granite City. This list is non-exhaustive so if you want to share your favorite local shop, leave us a comment below!
Rosemary Planet
This little shop on Holburn Street offers sustainable products, with a focus on being plastic-free. This is a refillery shop where you can come with your own containers. You can find cereals, a selection of tea, the famous nut butter but also shampoo and soaps (locally crafted) and depending on the day, fresh bread and fruits that are sourced nearby. Keep an eye on new arrivals!
This small family business has been around since 2007, specialising in fresh meat, fresh fish, fresh fruit & veg, bakery and pies. They source local high-quality products for you to enjoy at just a 2-minute walk from Bon Accord Centre. They also offer the possibility to order and collect from different collection points in Aberdeenshire. You can check the timetable on their website.
This shop is the oldest independent Health shop in Aberdeen. They have a variety of products available: vegan, gluten-free, organic and fair-trade... You can also shop cosmetics and eco-conscious everyday products. Find inside some local products made nearby, like this nut butter:
This family business started when skipper George Main made a reputation catching only the finest seafood to sell in the fish market in Aberdeen. Today, four generations later, JK Fine Foods sources the finest sea products in Peterhead and fresh meats from the Highlands.
This independent butcher sources the meat and poultry locally, as well as fresh vegetables, cheese and eggs. Supporting local businesses is their motto.
Rosemount market
This newly opened grocery store offers locally and ethically sourced products. Sustainability is one of their aims, with loose products which you can refill your own bags with, and plastic-free lifestyle items. Fresh products such as fruits and vegetables are locally sourced.
This butcher located in Rosemount sources the meat and vegetables locally. Some of them are also organic. You can order on their website and collect in store, and they will soon launch a free delivery service in Aberdeen, so stay tuned!
