Re:Treat Apothecary is an Inverurie-based small business owned by Kathryn McIntosh. She handmakes organic, vegan, eco-conscious, natural cosmetics.
In an open letter on December 6th, 2021, she addressed Marks&Spencer after they had named a new product range “Retreat Apothecary”.
Kathryn McIntosh wished that M&S would change their products’ name, as she, as a small business owner, would not appear on Internet searches as much if competing with a giant such as the retailer.
M&S has given a quote to the press today (8/12/2021) stating that “Our popular Apothecary brand launched in 2018 and includes a range of home fragrance products (for example scented candles and diffusers) in different scents including Calm, Balance and just for Christmas 2021 – Retreat.”
In an update post on Instagram, McIntosh expressed her contentment regarding the fact that the product range will only be a limited edition for Christmas and that the products will be pulled in January…in theory:
“While we don’t know for certain that M&S will withdraw their retreat Apothecary products in January their claim of ‘limited edition’ ‘just for Christmas’ would suggest so. And come January, Cuthbert and I will be watching…”
You can find all of Kathryn's products on her website Re:Treat Apothecary, they would make perfect local gift for Christmas!
